Great Books for Teachers

July 19, 2012
I am so excited, I have read lots on other teacher blogs and heard this mentioned in many professional developments, but today I made the commitment to purchase my own copies of  The Daily 5 and The CAFE book, both by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.  I always get excited when I find a new way to do something in the classroom and while I know many educators are already familiar with the 2 sisters, I just couldn't keep it to myself. If you haven't read these books, whether because like me you had no time or just hadn't thought to seek them out, I truly believe they are worth the investment (even if the investment is time and you just check them out from a library or borrow them from a friend or coworker.)

Every teacher has their favorite books, their "bibles" of education and I'm no exception! For teachers K through 2nd I recommend
Math Work Stations: Independent Learning You Can Count On, K-2 by Debbie Diller Product Details

and

Literacy Work Stations: Making Centers Work by Debbie Diller Literacy Work Stations: Making Centers Work

Coming from Pre K into early elementary I struggled with transitioning from the idea of weekly "themed" centers, these books helped me change how I look at centers. They may or may not follow a theme but they continue learning and practicing skills and my students are more engaged than ever before.
